چکیده

Aqueous-phase edsorption equilibrium and kinetic mechanism of phenol, 3-chlorophenol rnd o-cresol onto Norit Granular Activaied Caibon (NAC 1240) were studied in a batch system at temperature of 30 oC, agitation speed of 120 rpm, initial phenol concentrations of 25-200 mg/t. The elfects of initid phenol concentration and time of adsorption on phenol adsorption process were lnvestigated. The adsorption equilibrium data were reasonably fitted to iangmuir and Freundlich isotherm models over the entire range of initial concentrations used. The order of adsJrption capacity among the phenolic compounds was o-cresol > 3-chlorophenol > phenol. Two simplified kinetic modeis, namely pseudo first-order equation end pseudo second-ordier equation, were selected to follow the adsorption processes. The adsorption of all adsorbates could be best described by the pseudo second-order equation. The kinetic parameters of this model were calculated and discussed.

Adsorption of Phenolic Compounds onto the Activated Carbon Synthesized from Pulp and Paper Mill Sludge: Equilibrium Isotherm, Kinetics, Thermodynamics and Mechanism Studies

A new activated carbon was produced from pulp and paper mill sludge as a low cost precursor via chemical activation by zinc chloride. The activated carbon was successfully used for the adsorption of phenol and two of its derivatives, i.e. 2-chlorophenol and 4-nitrophenol from aqueous solutions. The characterization of the prepared activated carbon demonstrated high textural properties for the s...

Investigation of effective parameters on adsorption of amoxicillin from aqueous medium onto activated carbon

In this study, the adsorption of amoxicillin onto activated carbon was investigated. The effect of particle size and the effluent flow rate was discussed as well as the kinetics and isotherm of adsorption equilibrium. The isotherm equilibrium studies showed that the Langmuir model was appropriate for describing the adsorption equilibrium of amoxicillin onto the activated carbon. Furthermore, th...

Prediction of the adsorption capability onto activated carbon of liquid aliphatic alcohols using molecular fragments method

Quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) for estimating the adsorption of aliphatic alcohols onto activated carbon were developed using substructural molecular fragments (SMF) method. The adsorption capacity of activated carbon (gr/100grC) for 150 aliphatic alcohols onto activated carbon (AC) is studied under equilibrium conditions. Forward and backwards stepwise regression variable ...

Kinetic and Isotherm Modelling of the Adsorption of
Phenolic Compounds from Olive Mill Wastewater onto Activated Carbon.

The adsorption of phenolic compounds from olive oil wastewater by commercial activated carbon was studied as a function of adsorbent quantity and temperature. The sorption kinetics and the equilibrium isotherms were evaluated. Under optimum conditions (8 g of activated carbon per 100 mL), the maximum sorption capacity of activated carbon expressed as mg of caffeic acid equivalent per g of activ...

Adsorption of Copper (II) Ions from Aqueous Solution onto Activated Carbon Prepared from Cane Papyrus

The present study evaluates the suitability ofactivated carbon, prepared from Cane Papyrus, a plant that grows naturally and can be found quite easily, which serves as a biological sorbent for removal of  Cu2+ ions from aqueous solutions. Fourier transform infra-red analysis for the activated carbon, prepared fromCane Papyrus confirms the presence of amino (–NH), carbonyl (–C=O), and hydroxyl (...
